Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball leads wire-to-wire at Fredonia

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team never trailed today, as they cruised past Fredonia 78-58.  The Red Dragons are now 14-7 overall and 10-4 in the SUNYAC with the victory.

"Our guys were ready to compete tonight," said Head Coach Cameron Conover.  "I thought our focus was outstanding in the first half.  To hold a team to 12 points in a half takes a collective effort, and our guys were determined to play great defense.  Our guys played hard for the whole game, and I am proud of their effort."

The Inside Story
Oneonta raced out to a 16-2 lead in the opening six minutes of the contest taking advantage of a cold shooting performance by the Blue Devils.  By the time the first 20 minutes was in the books, the Red Dragons found themselves ahead 44-12.  Oneonta shot nearly 50 percent in the first half including 5-of-7 from behind the arc.  Fredonia shot only 14 percent in the opening half of play.

In the second half, Oneonta continued to hold a commanding lead cresting at 23 points with just over 12 minutes remaining in the contest.

Just the Stats
Oneonta controlled the backboard to the tune of a 58-35 advantage.  The Red Dragons grabbed 20 offensive boards leading to a lopsided 44-20 scoring advantage in the paint and 16-5 advantage off second chances.

Three players reached double figures in the game led by junior Dylan Trombley's (Moriah, NY/Moriah) 20 points.  Trombley was 7-of-14 from the field overall including 4-of-7 from behind the arc.

Classmate Michael Ortale Jr. (Bethlehem, NY/Bethlehem Central) had a huge double-double performance with 17 points and a season high 16 rebounds.  Sophomore Dylan Craft (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) added 13 points off the bench to lead the reserves.

What's Next
Oneonta will spend its final two weekends of the regular season at home.  They begin the final stretch on Friday night against rival Cortland beginning at 7:30pm.
