The 2021-22 season for the SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team came to and end tonight with a 69-52 loss to rival Cortland in the semifinals of the SUNYAC tournament. Oneonta's season ends with an overall record of 14-13.

The Inside Story
The undoing for Oneonta tonight was a nearly eight-minute stretch in the final quarter without registering a single point allowing Cortland to pull away for the victory. Oneonta sophomore
Molly Stephens (LaGrange/Arlington) hit a three-pointer at the 8:37 mark to pull them to within seven points, but that would be the last basket until a
Sophia Wakin (Delhi/Delaware Academy) lay up with 45 seconds remaining.

Tonight's contest was otherwise a tight game especially in the first half where the two teams went just about basket-for-basket. Cortland won the first quarter 16-10 and Oneonta turned the tables in the second quarter outscoring the hosts 21-17. Cortland held a slim 33-31 lead at the break.

Oneonta led for most of the opening quarter scoring the first four points of the game and still leading 8-4 at the 4:32 mark. Cortland then put together a 12-2 run to end the quarter to grab its 16-10 advantage after one quarter of play.

Oneonta trailed early in the second quarter 20-12 before going on a 10-2 run to tie the game at 22 apiece with six minutes left in the quarter. Stephens scored five points during the run, which was capped by a
Meg Nardelli (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) three-pointer. Cortland jumped back in front with a pair of three-pointers and held on to take its two-point lead into halftime.

Junior
Olivia Dobrovosky (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) tied the game at 33 apiece on the first possession of the third quarter. The game was tied again at 35 apiece before the hosts went on a 13-2 run to break out to an 11-point lead midway through the quarter. A Three-pointer by Maggie Malone as time expired in the quarter gave Cortland a 57-47 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Just the Stats
Dobrovosky recorded a 20 point, 10 rebound double-double to lead Oneonta. Stephens finished the game with 14 points.

Statistically, the game was even with the only significant difference was that Cortland made 10 three-pointers while Oneonta made four from behind the arc.
