The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team got 18 points from sophomore
Molly Stephens (LaGrange/Arlington) and held off a late charge by Geneseo today to pick up a 55-52 victory in SUNYAC women's action. The Win for the Red Dragons brings them back to an even 6-6 record overall and 3-2 in the conference while the Knights fall to 4-6 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

The Inside Story
Besides Stephens, the Oneonta reserves chipped in big time to help secure the win. The combination of senior
Megan Palmatier (Bainbridge/Bainbridge-Guilford), and juniors
Lauren Obermayer (East Greenbush/Columbia),
Elizabeth Thompson (Morris/Morris) and
Margaret Nardelli (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) combined for 22 points outscoring Geneseo's reserves by nine points.

The two teams battled nearly even through the first two quarters of action with Oneonta holding a slim 23-21 lead at halftime. There was a total of six ties in the contest and they all came in the second quarter.

The Red Dragons fell behind 12-2 midway through the first quarter but closed out the final 4:18 with nine unanswered to cut its deficit to 12-11 entering the second quarter. Stephens paced the offense with five points during the run.

A jumper by freshman
Nadia Brown (Troy/Troy) gave Oneonta its first lead of the game at 13-12 early in the second quarter. The two teams took turns with separate runs and eventually stood at 21 apiece before a pair of free throws by Stephens broke the deadlock just before halftime.

Oneonta continued to build its lead throughout the third quarter extending it to nine points entering the final quarter. Seven different Red Dragons scored in the quarter.

A three-pointer by Stephens at the 5:52 mark of the fourth gave the Red Dragons its largest lead of the game at 52-39. Geneseo then seized the momentum and made its final push coming up short in the end.

Just the Stats
Oneonta outrebounded Geneseo 47-37 including a 12-8 edge on the offensive glass. Junior
Olivia Dobrovosky (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) collected 10 rebounds while sophomore
Jenna Harclerode (Sayville/Sayville) collected nine boards.

What's Next
Oneonta will play the first of five straight home games this Thursday versus Fredonia. The game was moved from Saturday due to other COVID related changes throughout the SUNYAC. Thursday's game is scheduled for a 5:30 tipoff.
