Women's basketball takes care of Fredonia

A Quick Look
Freshman Nadia Brown (Troy/Troy) scored 15 points to lead three players in double figures tonight, as the SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team defeated Fredonia 57-47.  The win for the Red Dragons pushed its overall record to 7-6 and 4-2 in the SUNYAC while the Blue Devils leave town 7-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
 
The Inside Story
The contest was close throughout with the biggest advantage for the hosts was at the free throw line outscoring Fredonia 21-4.  The Red Dragons converted 21-of-26 from the charity stripe including 5-of-6 in the final minute of the game to secure the victory.  Brown was a perfect 4-of-4 from the line during the final stretch and made 9-of-10 for the contest.
 
Oneonta raced out to an 8-0 lead early before Fredonia battled back to pull within two points at 12-10 at the end of the opening period.  Junior Olivia Dobrovosky (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) led the way in the first quarter with six points.
 
Oneonta continued to hold the lead midway in the second quarter before the Blue Devils put together its best run of 9-1 to grab its only lead of the game at 23-22 on a three-point basket by Isabella Weir.  The Red Dragons scored the final four points of the quarter to take a 26-23 lead into halftime.
 
Oneonta increased its lead in the third quarter outscoring Fredonia 16-10.  Brown scored six points in the quarter to pace the offense.
 
The Blue Devils made one last push in the final quarter cutting its deficit to four points at 46-42 with 5:32 remaining, but the Red Dragons clamped down and stymied the Fredonia offense enroute to the final margin of victory.
 
Just the Stats
Dobrovosky finished the game with 13 points and sophomore Molly Stephens (LaGrange/Arlington) added 10 points.  Oneonta outscored Fredonia in the paint 28-16.
 
What's Next
Oneonta will take to the court again tomorrow night when they play host to Buffalo State beginning at 5:30pm.
