The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team opened 2022 tonight at Brockport and fell to the Golden Eagles 75-51. The loss puts the Red Dragons at 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the SUNYAC while Brockport moves to 8-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

The Inside Story
Despite the setback, Oneonta had three players reach double figures led by junior
Olivia Dobrovosky's (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) 15 points. Sophomore
Jenna Harclerode (Sayville/Sayville) added 11 points and six rebounds and senior
Megan Palmatier (Bainbridge/Bainbridge-Guilford) came off the bench to contribute 10 points.

The hosts didn't miss many shots in racing out to a 28-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Golden Eagles made 10-of-16 shots from the field in the opening quarter including a pair of threes.

The Red Dragons fell behind early, 7-2, but battled back to grab an 11-10 advantage when junior
Margaret Nardelli (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) drained a three midway through the first quarter. Oneonta led one more time at 13-12 before Brockport scored 16 unanswered over the final 4:25 of the quarter to open up its lead.

Oneonta settled in a bit in the second quarter cutting its overall deficit to 10 points entering halftime. Harclerode led a balanced attack with five points in the quarter.

The two teams played relatively even in the third quarter, but the Golden Eagles were able to push its advantage to 61-47 heading into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, Brockport outscored Oneonta 14-4 for the final margin of victory.

Just the Stats
In the contest, Brockport held the advantage in most statistical categories except for points off turnovers, where Oneonta posted a 9-3 advantage. Â The Red Dragons were a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line and recorded 13 assists on 21 baskets.
