Oneonta, NY - SUNY Cortland took the 2022 version of the pool's version of the Battle of Red Dragons in women's swimming and diving.
There were several noteworthy results for SUNY Oneonta despite the setback. Senior
Erin Clune (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley), sophomore
Emma Stephenson (Owego/Owego Free Academy), freshman
Callie Stinson (Alexandria, VA/West Potomac ) and junior
Kimberly Colella (East Northport/Commack) were victorious in the 400 yard medley timing in at 4:19.99 just under six-seconds ahead of the Cortland runner-up relay team. Clune was victorious also in the 100 yard backstroke touching the wall at 1:01.98 with her teammate junior
Kayla Keddy (Queensbury/Queensbury) just under four seconds behind. Clune also had a triumph in the 200 yard backstroke when she turned in a time of 2:20.35 just under five seconds ahead of the Cortland trailer. Â
In the 200 yard individual medley Oneonta found another winner when junior
Samantha Sanchez (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) touched up with a time of 2:28.04 with teammate sophomore
Claire Armstrong (Woodbury/Monroe Woodbury) taking the runner-up position just under three seconds behind. Later a 200 yard freestyle relay win was recorded by Oneonta when Stinson, sophomore
Sophia Olson (Scotia/Scotia Glenville), Clune and Colella took the top spot tallying a time of 1:47.55. They were more than six seconds ahead of their their teammates as Oneonta took one and two in that race.
Next up for SUNY Oneonta is a meet against the New Paltz Hawks on Saturday, February 5th beginning at 1:00 PM on the campus of SUNY New Paltz.
