Women's basketball defeats Brockport

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team defeated Brockport today 63-55 to complete a home weekend sweep and run its record to 10-7 overall and 7-3 in the SUNYAC.  For the Red Dragons, it was its fifth win in its last six games, as they hold on to its third place standing in the conference.

The Inside Story
Today's result was all about rebounding for Oneonta, as they dominated the offensive glass ripping down a season best 23, which led to 13 second chance points.  Leading the way was junior Olivia Dobrovosky (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) and sophomore Jenna Harclerode (Sayville/Sayville), who grabbed 12 and 10 boards respectively.  Harclerode had six offensive rebounds and Dobrovosky grabbed five offensive rebounds.

Brockport (8-8, 3-7 SUNYAC) hit six of its first 12 shots in grabbing an early 12-6 lead in the first quarter.  Oneonta closed the quarter on a 7-4 run including a layup by sophomore Molly Stephens (LaGrange/Arlington) at the buzzer to end the quarter with the Red Dragons trailing 16-13.

Oneonta scored the opening four points in the second quarter to take its first lead of the game.  The two squads took turns with the lead until a last second basket by senior Megan Palmatier (Bainbridge/Bainbridge-Guilford) gave Oneonta a 27-25 advantage heading into halftime.

The game was tied for the last time at 31 apiece at the 7:32 mark of the third quarter.  Stephens then buried a three-pointer to fuel seven unanswered give the Red Dragons the lead for good.  Oneonta carried a 45-40 lead into the final quarter.

Oneonta slowly continued to build its lead throughout the fourth quarter aided by 10 free throws.  The Red Dragons defense held the Golden Eagles without a field goal over the final 3:44 of the quarter.
