A Quick look
A big third quarter for the visiting New Paltz Hawks lifted them to a 66-54 victory tonight over host SUNY Oneonta in SUNYAC women's action. The loss for Oneonta snapped its mini three-game win streak and puts them at 8-7 overall and 5-3 in the conference while the Hawks leave town 10-4 overall and 6-2 in the SUNYAC.

The Inside Story
The two teams were deadlocked at 33 apiece through the first two quarters of play before the Hawks did its damage. New Paltz scored 19 unanswered points that included the finish of the second quarter and into the first six minutes of the third quarter to grab a commanding lead. The Hawks hit 8-of-19 in the quarter including 4-of-10 from behind the arc. Sophomore Jenny Walton came off the bench to lead the way for the visitors with eight points.

The Red Dragons made an early run at the Hawks in the fourth quarter with an 8-4 spurt, but a pair of three-pointers by the Hawks stifled the comeback effort.

The two teams played to an 18-18 draw in the opening quarter, as both teams didn't miss too many opportunities. Freshman
Amanda Zuntag (Staten Island/Notre Dame Academy) led the Red Dragons with eight points in the quarter hitting all four of her shots. For the quarter, Oneonta shot 57 percent making 8-of-14 from the floor.

In the second quarter, Oneonta opened up a six-point lead midway through the quarter at 27-21. The Hawks made a late push over the final three minutes to get even once again heading into halftime.

Just the Stats
Zuntag led Oneonta with 14 points. She also added 10 boards to record her first collegiate double-double.

The Red Dragons had a huge advantage in the paint outscoring the Hawks 42-28. The reserves for the Hawks held a 19-10 advantage while New Paltz also made 11 three-pointers in the game, which proved to be the biggest difference.

Oneonta will host Geneseo this coming Friday night beginning at 5:30pm.
