Wrestlers finish fourth overall at ECWC championships

Graduate Student Tyler Brazinski captures title at 165

A Quick Look
Graduate Student Tyler Brazinski (Johnson City/Johnson City) captured the individual title at 165 pounds to help lead the SUNY Oneonta wrestling team to a fourth-place finish at the ECWC Championships today hosted by Ithaca College.  In all, the Red Dragons had nine wrestlers earn All-Conference honors, as the squad accumulated 77.5 points.  Host Ithaca won the overall team title.
 
The Inside Story
Brazinski ripped his way through his weight class enroute to the title.  Brazinski was 4-0 on the day including three wins via pinfall.
 
Brazinski's three pins came in his first three matches and were against Tyler Speraw of Penn State Behrend (2:37), Adrian Rosario-Beato of Ithaca (4:30) and Isaac Matthews of Oswego (6:47).  His final win of the day was a 4-1 decision against Matthew Kline of Brockport in the championship match.
 
Joining Brazinski as All-Conference wrestlers are seniors Jacob Pine (Hoosick Falls/Hoosick Falls) (285, 3rd place), and Anthony Marino (133, 6th place), juniors Tyler Farley (Bay Shore/Bay Shore) (125, 5th place), Michael Blando (Massapequa/Massapequa) (141, 4th place) and Nino Prisco (Mount Kisco/Fox Lane) (184, 4th place), sophomores Peter Sacco (Vestal/Vestal) (125, 6th place) and Kenneth Sauer (Franklin/Franklin) (165, 6th place) and freshman Giovanni Russo (Cortlandt Manor/Walter Panas) (125, 4th place).
 
Other wrestlers who competed for the Red Dragons in the event included juniors Samuel Berger (285) and Nick Vandenburg (Rotterdam/Schalmont) (149), sophomores Santos Ocasio (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) (125), Justin Pena (Suffern/Suffern) (174) and Diego Orellana (Ossining/Ossining) (285) and freshmen Danny Poggi (West Islip/West Islip) (133), Cameron Groff (Averill Park/Averill Park) (149), Joel Zea (Queens/Thomas Edison) (174) and Nicholas Sergi (Northport/Northport) (174).
 
What's Next
Oneonta is scheduled to travel to Wilkes University next Sunday to compete in the annual John Reese Duals.
