The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team fell to Hartwick College 3-1 in non-conference action Wednesday evening. The loss drops the Red Dragons record to 1-3 on the year while the Hawks improve to 3-1.

Ashlee Mazzella (Warwick/Warwick Valley) paced Oneonta with a team-high 11 kills while
Adriana Losier (Fishkill/John Jay) chipped in with nine.
Ashanti Davis (Cortlandt Manor/Hendrick Hudson) added six blocks while
Carsyn Rachuta (Holbrook/Sachem North) and Annalisa Alicia finished with 17 digs apiece.
The Inside Story
Oneonta's lone win came in the second set when they earned a 27-25 victory. Trailing 6-3 early in the set, a Hartwick service error propelled the Red Dragons on a 4-0 run to take their first lead.
Ashlee Mazzella (Warwick/Warwick Valley) got the ball rolling with a service ace before
Ashanti Davis (Cortlandt Manor/Hendrick Hudson) and
Kayla Rende (Wantagh/Wantagh) rejected a Hartwick attack to knot the set at 6-6. Oneonta took the lead another Mazzella ace.
With Oneonta holding on to a slim 10-8 lead, Hartwick went on a 4-0 run of their own before the Red Dragons called a timeout to regroup. After the timeout, Oneonta would tie the set at 12-12 with an Adrianna Losier kill and a
Kayla Rende (Wantagh/Wantagh) ace. The Red Dragons fell behind 15-13 before going on another 4-0 run to take a 17-15 advantage.
Caitlin Christie (Bay Shore/Bay Shore) got the run started with a kill on a feed from
Carsyn Rachuta (Holbrook/Sachem North). A
Kaelyn DeLello (Manorville/Eastport-South Manor) service ace tied the set at 15-15. The Hawks then had back-to-back attack errors to cap off the Oneonta run. After a timeout by Hartwick, the Hawks tallied two quick points to tie the set once again.
Oneonta led 24-23, with a chance to put the set away, but Hartwick earned consecutive kills to go in front 25-24. With the Red Dragons backs against the wall, a Hartwick attack error kept the set going. Oneonta finally finished the set on kills by
Ashanti Davis (Cortlandt Manor/Hendrick Hudson) and
Caitlin Christie (Bay Shore/Bay Shore) to hold on for the 27-25 win.
What's Next
Oneonta returns to action on Saturday, September 11
th when they travel to Clarkson for a 1:00pm tilt with the Golden Knights, before wrapping up the day with a 5:30pm match at St. Lawrence University.
