SUNYAC Announces 2021 All-Conference Baseball Team

Sean Liquori named Rookie of the Year

The State University of New York Athletic Conference announced its All-Conference Team in the sport of baseball today and two SUNY Oneonta players were recognized for their on-field performances this season.

Leading the way was sophomore Sean Liquori (Thiells/North Rockland) who was selected as the Clark V. Whited Rookie of the Year while being named to the Second Team as a utility player.  Senior Michael Losak (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) was also recognized being named to the Second Team as a relief pitcher.

Liquori was eligible for the Rookie of the Year award due to the fact that the 2020 season was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic where all spring athletes received a waiver from the NCAA that allowed them to not lose a season of eligibility making Liquori a first-year player.

Liquori started all 24 games for Oneonta this spring splitting time between first base and pitcher.  Liquori finished the season with a .296 average collecting 21 hits while driving in 11 runs.  He was second on the team in runs scored and collected 29 bases for a .408 slugging percentage.  He had a .407 on-base percentage, which was second amongst starting players and had an .815 OPS.  In the field, Liquori made only one error in 94 total chances for a .989 fielding percentage.

On the mound, Liquori was the team's No. 1 starter recording eight starts this spring.  He finished with a 4-3 record and a 3.80 ERA.  In 42 2/3rds innings, he struck out 35 batters and held opponents to a .248 batting average.  Liquori led the staff with a 1.24 WHIP.

Losak emerged as Oneonta's go-to pitcher out of the bullpen in the early season before being moved into the starting rotation for the final two weeks of the season.  After recording four saves through the first half of the season, Losak got his first start against nationally ranked Oswego on May 6th where he threw a complete game five-hitter in a 5-2 win.

For the season, Losak was 2-1 with a staff best 3.34 earned-run average.  He appeared in 11 games throwing 35 innings and allowing only 28 hits and striking out a team best 44 batters.  Opponents hit only .212 against him this spring and his WHIP was second only to Liquori's at 1.29.

Losak was also named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team for his performance in the opening game versus Oswego.  Despite taking the loss, he struck out nine Lakers in 7 2/3rds innings.

Oneonta finished the season 11-13 overall while qualifying for the SUNYAC tournament as the No. 2 seed from the East Division.
