The SUNY Oneonta softball team traveled north to Plattsburgh today and came away with a doubleheader sweep by the scores of 8-6 and 12-5. The second game was stopped in the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs due to darkness.

The Inside Story
In the opener, the Red Dragons banged out 13 hits including four from senior
Meaghan Raleigh (Endwell/Maine Endwell) who was a perfect 4-4 with three doubles and three runs batted in. Classmate
Kristen Collins (Hicksville/Holy Trinity) and rookie
Delaney Haley (Levittown/Division Avenue) each collected a pair of hits.

Senior
Hunter VanArnum (Schuylerville/Schuylerville) pitched three innings in relief allowing one earned run to earn her first win of the season. Freshman
Lauren Weber (Sayville/Sayville) pitched a scoreless seventh to earn her first collegiate save.

Oneonta got started in the second inning posting four runs on two hits. Raleigh drove in freshman
Tori Brower (West Islip/West Islip) with the game's first run. Collins scored the final run of the inning on a wild pitch.

Plattsburgh cut Oneonta's lead in half with a pair of runs in the home half of the second and added a single run in the third to get to within one run at 4-3 entering the fourth.

Senior
Caroline Koch (New City/Clarkstown South) hit a sacrifice fly to knock in Collins in the top of the fourth, but the Cardinals posted a single run to stay close at 5-4.

Raleigh hit RBI doubles in the fifth and sixth to help the Red Dragons gain an 8-4 lead. Plattsburgh got two of the runs back in the bottom of the sixth making it 8-6. Weber pitched a perfect seventh to secure the win for Oneonta.

In the nightcap, Oneonta posted seven runs in the second inning to break the game open. The big hit in the inning was a bases-clearing double by senior
Amber Badillo (Mohegan Lake/Shrub Oak) that drove in Koch, Haley and Collins.

The Red Dragons added three runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh. Raleigh had an RBI triple in the sixth and sophomores
Gianna DiGiovanni (Wantagh/Sacred Heart Academy) and
Juliana D'Alessandro (Nanuet/Nanuet) each drove in runs in the seventh.

Weber pitched three innings in relief of starter
Kathryn Davies (Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth Regional) to earn her second win of the season. Weber allowed three hits and one unearned run while recording three strikeouts.

Collins finished game two with three hits to lead the offense. Badillo collected a pair of hits to go with her three RBIs. Koch, DiGiovanni and D'Alessandro each drove in two runs.

What's Next
Oneonta will play its first home games of the 2021 season on Saturday when they host rival Cortland for a SUNYAC doubleheader beginning at noon. The two played already this week with each team winning a game.
