Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men’s tennis gain first win of 2021

Defeat SUNY Delhi Broncos 8-1

Oneonta, NY – Men's tennis hosted their first home match since the spring of 2019.  The SUNY Delhi Broncos took the short ride to Oneonta and met a very  hungry Red Dragons Squad.

Doubles was a lopsided affair as the Red Dragon men won on all flights.  The number one team of senior Riley Smith (Westhampton Beach/Westhampton Beach) and junior Matthew Reinhold (New Windsor/Newburgh Free Academy) were dominant in securing an 8-3 win as the duo were never really in any trouble.  The second flight of sophomores Jacob Dornsife (Wilmington, DE/Mt. Pleasant) and Mason Spotteck relinquished just one game on route to an 8-1 rout.  The third doubles pair of seniors Ben Cohen (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin) and Lucas Irace (Goshen/Goshen Central) were perfect in shutting out their Bronco foes 8-0.

In singles with a 3-0 lead in tow the Red Dragons kept the momentum in their favor and finished off the Broncos.  Noteworthy was the win at number four singles as freshman Joshua Mann (East Greenbush/Columbia) was successful in his first Red Dragon career win recording a 6-2, 6-1 triumph.  Sophomore August Lepique got a singles win at second singles relinquishing just one game compiling a 6-1, 6-0 win.  Spotteck shutout his opponent 6-0, 6-0 in the third position.  Wrapping up wins in the afternoon was sophomore Michael Distler (Amityville/St. John the Baptist) recording his first win of the year also with a shutout 6-0, 6-0.

The Red Dragon men's tennis team on the 2021 shortened season are 1-1.  They now welcome the always tough RIT Tigers on Wednesday, April 7th with a match time start of 4 PM.  The action will take place at the Heissan Tennis Courts.
