A Quick Look
In a game that had seven ties and four lead changes, it was the final lead change that proved to be the difference today, as SUNY Potsdam clipped SUNY Oneonta 14-13 in the second overtime period.  The loss for Oneonta dropped them to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the SUNYAC East Division while the win for the Bears raised its overall record to 6-3 and 4-1 in the SUNYAC East.

The Inside Story
Potsdam grabbed a 3-1 lead after the opening period.  Oneonta fell behind 3-0 before a goal by senior Thomas Fay (Nanuet/Nanuet) with 43 seconds to go put the Red Dragons on the scoreboard.

Oneonta turned the table in the second period outscoring Potsdam 5-2 to take a 6-5 lead into halftime.  Trailing 4-1, the Red Dragons tied the game with three unanswered goals including back-to-back goals by freshman Luke Maslin (Owego/Owego Free Academy).

Potsdam went back ahead 5-4 with just under five minutes to go in the second period before Fay tied the game again and classmate Ryan MacDevitt (Sayville/Sayville) put Oneonta ahead for the first time with a goal at the 1:37 to go.

Potsdam regained the lead at 9-8 heading to the final period of play.  Sophomores Connor Gallagher (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson) and David Guest (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) scored for Oneonta in the period.

The two teams combined for nine goals in the final period.  A goal by Guest at the 7:33 mark gave Oneonta a 12-10 advantage.  Potsdam scored back-to-back goals to tie the game once again before a goal by Gallagher gave Oneonta the lead with under two minutes left.  Potsdam tied the game with 41 seconds remaining forcing the extra period.

After a scoreless first overtime, Josh Huitt ended the game with a goal at 3:09 of the second overtime period.
