A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team wrapped up its regular season today with a comfortable 13-5 victory at New Paltz. The win for the Red Dragons put them at 5-1 in the East Division earning them the top seed for the upcoming SUNYAC tournament that begins Tuesday.

"It was good to get back in the win column," said Head Coach
Pete Owens. "All our eyes are on Tuesday now. We need our best performance against a quality opponent."

The Inside Story
Oneonta had the game in control from the opening whistle jumping out to a 5-1 lead after the first quarter. Junior
Dean Cannon (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) got things started for the Red Dragons scoring his 12
th of the season less than two minutes in off an assist from senior
Santiago Cardona (Montrose/Hendricks Hudson). Cannon would tack on two more goals in the quarter to pace the offense. Cardona would score his first goal of the season at the 8:05 mark giving Oneonta a 2-0 lead. Sophomore
David Guest (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) capped the scoring in the period with a man-up goal at 1:16.

Oneonta added to its lead in the second period outscoring New Paltz 3-1 to take an 8-2 lead into halftime. Seniors
Ryan MacDevitt (Sayville/Sayville) and
Thomas Fay (Nanuet/Nanuet) each scored before Guest registered his second of the game to make the score 8-2.

Cannon scored a pair of goals in the third period including and extra-man tally at the 6:28 mark. Oneonta carried a 10-4 lead into the final period of action.

In the fourth, Cannon and Guest each scored once again while senior
Andrew Hodgens (Syracuse/Westhill) scored his third of the season.

Just the Stats
Oneonta doubled up on New Paltz in shots, 44-22, and won 15-of-21 faceoffs including eight by
Matthew Cronk (Fairport/Fairport) and seven by
Timothy Shanley (West Hempstead/West Hempstead). Both teams were a perfect 21-of-21 on clears.

Jordan Berson (Old Bethpage/JFK) played the full 60 minutes in goal for the Red Dragons making 11 saves.

What's Next
Due to the East/West split this spring in the conference, Oneonta will host the No. 2 seed from the West Geneseo in its semifinal contest beginning at 4pm on Tuesday. The semifinal home game will be the first for the Red Dragons since 2003, which was the very first year of the SUNYAC tournament for men's lacrosse. You can catch the live action on Facebook (OneontaRedDragonSports).
