Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's lacrosse falls hard to rival Cortland

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team traveled to rival Cortland this afternoon for a rare non-conference game due to the East-West alignment.  With only a day's rest between its last game on Friday, Oneonta fell hard to its rival Red Dragons 21-5.  The loss was Oneonta's first of the season, as they are now 4-1 overall.

The Inside Story
Senior Thomas Fay (Nanuet/Nanuet) and sophomores Sam Haita (Stephentown/La Salle Institute), David Guest (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) and Connor Gallagher (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson) along with freshman Luke Maslin (Owego/Owego Free Academy) each scored a goal today for Oneonta.

Oneonta was held scoreless through the first two periods before getting on the scoreboard with 3:14 to go in the third period.  From that point forward, Oneonta did outscore Cortland 5-3, but the game was already decided.

Just the Stats
Cortland registered 62 shots in the game to Oneonta's 24.  The face-offs were 15-14 in favor of Cortland.  Nine of Oneonta's face-off wins were recorded by junior Timothy Shanley (West Hempstead/West Hempstead).

What's Next
Oneonta will travel to Potsdam this upcoming Friday afternoon for a SUNYAC East contest beginning at 4pm.  Oneonta, who has already clinched a playoff spot, can clinch first place in the East with a victory against the Bears.
