Dobrovosky late-game heroics sink Potsdam

Red Dragons complete weekend sweep

A Quick Look
A jump shot by junior Olivia Dobrovosky (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) with eight seconds remaining lifted the SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team to a 63-62 win at Potsdam this afternoon.  The win for the Red Dragons completed a weekend sweep and raises its record to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the SUNYAC.  The loss for the Bears drops them to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

The Inside Story
Oneonta overcame a 10-point deficit in the final 7:15 of the contest.  The comeback started with a three-pointer from junior Margaret Nardelli (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) at the 6:40 mark.  The Red Dragons continued to claw its way back and took a 56-55 lead on a layup by freshman Amanda Zuntag (Staten Island/Notre Dame Academy) at the 2:55 mark.

A three-pointer by Bella Barner of Potsdam gave them the lead back before sophomore Jenna Harclerode (Sayville/Sayville) tied the game with a pair of free throws with 2:01 remaining.  Dobrovosky put Oneonta ahead after making 1-of-2 free throws with just over one minute to go.  Jakia Howard put the Bears ahead with a layup at the 1:01 mark.

The two teams exchanged turnovers and then Zuntag was fouled on an offensive rebound giving her a pair of free throws, which she converted with 27 seconds remaining.  Dyamon Hunter then made a pair of free throws for Potsdam five seconds later setting up the heroics by Dobrovosky.  Barner missed a three-pointer as the clock expired.

The contest was tight throughout with a total of 14 ties and 20 lead changes.  Potsdam held the lead after each of the first three quarters before Oneonta mounted its comeback in the final period.

Just the Stats
Dobrovosky was one of four players in double figures for the Red Dragons today with her 13 points.  Sophomore Molly Stephens (LaGrange/Arlington) led Oneonta with 14 points.  Zuntag added 10 points and eight rebounds and Nardelli contributed 11 points off the bench.

The biggest difference in the game came at the free throw line where Oneonta made 18-of-20 while the Bears converted only 10-of-19.
