The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball played its last game of 2021 at Sage College today cruising past the gators 80-42. Thirteen players scored at least two points, as Oneonta evened its overall record at 5-5.

The Inside Story
Oneonta took control of the contest early jumping out to a 7-2 lead in the first two minutes of the game. Sophomore
Molly Stephens' (LaGrange/Arlington) trey capped the early run en route to a game and collegiate high 23 points.

By the midway point of the opening quarter, the Red Dragons stretched its lead to 15-4 on a made free throw by senior
Megan Palmatier (Bainbridge/Bainbridge-Guilford). The Gators made a run during the final five minutes of the stanza shrinking its deficit to 19-14 entering the second quarter.

Oneonta put the game out of reach with a combined 45 points in the second and third quarters while holding Sage to a combined 20 points. Entering the final quarter, the Red Dragons had the game well in hand at 54-34.

Just the Stats
Thirteen players contributed to the season high of 80 points. Freshman
Amanda Zuntag (Staten Island/Notre Dame Academy) was the only other player to reach double figures for Oneonta posting 12 points while grabbing six boards.

Oneonta shot an even 50 percent from the floor (35-70) while hitting 8-of-20 from behind the arc. The Red Dragons outrebounded the Gators 45-35 including 15 offensive boards. Oneonta had a big advantage in the paint outscoring Sage 44-16 while converting 22 Gator turnovers into 31 points.

What's Next
Oneonta will now have a few weeks off before returning in early January to prepare for its opening games of 2022 at Brockport and Geneseo on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 7-8.
