The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team used strong opening and closing quarters tonight in a 69-56 victory at Plattsburgh. Three players scored in double figures to lead the Red Dragons to its first SUNYAC win of the young season.

Molly Stephens (LaGrange/Arlington) in the opening three minutes of the contest gave Oneonta (3-5, 1-1 SUNYAC) a lead that they would never relinquish. A three-pointer by freshman
Nadia Brown (Troy/Troy) pushed the Red Dragons' lead to 9-1 enroute to grabbing a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Brown led all scorers in tonight's game with 18 points.
A quick 7-2 burst by Plattsburgh (3-4, 0-2 SUNYAC) to begin the second quarter cut Oneonta's advantage to 16-14. The Red Dragons countered with eight unanswered capped by an
Olivia Dobrovosky (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) layup at the 3:20 mark. Oneonta would hold a 28-22 lead heading into halftime.
The Red Dragons stormed out of the break putting an 11-2 run together to start the third quarter. Brown and sophomore
Jenna Harclerode (Sayville/Sayville) combined for nine of the 11 points in the run. Five unanswered points late in the quarter by Plattsburgh brought them to within 43-38 entering the final quarter.
Oneonta shut the door on any comeback for the Cardinals with a 13-2 run that covered about four minutes in the middle of the quarter to push its lead to 19 points with just under three minutes remaining. Brown and Stephens led the charge with four points each.
Just the Stats
Stephens and Dobrovosky joined Brown in double figures tonight with 16 points and 14 points respectively. The pair also combined for 11 boards, nine steals and seven assists.
The Red Dragons outrebounded the Cardinals 47-32 which included 17 offensive rebounds leading to 12 second chance points. Oneonta held a decided advantage of 36-22 for points in the paint.
