Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball plays exhibition game at Div. I Binghamton

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team traveled to Div. I and former SUNYAC foe Binghamton University today to face them in an exhibition game.  The Bearcats won the contest 79-55.

"We competed hard, especially on the defensive end and on the boards," said Head Coach Cameron Conover.  "We didn't shoot the ball well, and Binghamton's defense was a big reason why.  I think they forced us to shoot a little off balance, which can be the difference between a make and a miss.  We will continue to work and get better."

The Inside Story
The Bearcats carried a 41-24 lead into the second half and only moved its advantage to 52-33 near the midway point of the second half.  By the time that the third media timeout came around, Binghamton had pushed its lead to the largest of the contest at 25 points, 60-35.

The Red Dragons battled to the end with all 13 players that were dressed having an opportunity to compete.  Sophomore Dylan Craft (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) entered the game late and collected seven points and a pair of rebounds in three minutes of action.

The Bearcats jumped out to an early 6-0 lead before a pair of free throws by senior Daniel Derice (Tampa, FL/Wesley Chapel) got the Red Dragons on the scoreboard.  At the first media timeout, Binghamton extended its advantage to 10-2.

A quick 5-1 spurt for Oneonta brought them to within four points at 11-7.  A three-pointer by Derice was followed by a driving layup by sophomore Frankie Williams (Bronx, NY/Fannie Lou).

As the half wore on, the Bearcats continued to pull away eventually taking a 41-24 lead at halftime.  Derice led Oneonta with eight points and five boards.

Just the Stats
Despite being outrebounded overall Oneonta held an 18-7 advantage on the offensive glass.  The Red Dragons outscored the Bearcats 16-8 off turnovers and 16-6 on second chance points.

Derice and classmate Dylan Trombley (Moriah, NY/Moriah) both reached double figures today for Oneonta scoring 13 points and 11 points respectively.  Derice finished with a team high eight rebounds to go with three steals and a pair of assists.
