Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's basketball comes up short in overtime at Utica College

A Quick Look
In a game that was tied 12 times and saw 22 lead changes, it was the final lead of 70-67 by host Utica College that mattered, as the SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team dropped a tough one on the road.

The Inside Story
The two squads entered the extra period knotted at 62 apiece after four quarters of play.  Freshman Amanda Zuntag (Staten Island/Notre Dame Academy) scored the opening bucket of overtime before Utica (3-0) scored eight unanswered to take the lead for good with just under two minutes remaining in overtime.

Junior Olivia Dobrovosky (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) made a three with 54 seconds left and forced a turnover to get the ball back with a chance to tie the game.  Sophomore Molly Stephens (LaGrange/Arlington), who led Oneonta (0-4) with 18 points in the game, missed a three with five seconds left.

Oneonta trailed 47-45 entering the fourth period and a Stephens three-pointer gave the Red Dragons a 57-53 lead with 2:49 remaining in the game.  The Pioneers went on a 9-2 run to grab a 62-59 lead with 17 seconds left.  Freshman Nadia Brown (Troy/Troy) sent the game to overtime by burying a three with 10 seconds to go.  Utica missed a layup in the waning seconds and Jenna Harclerode (Sayville/Sayville) controlled the rebound as the buzzer sounded.

The hosts had an 18-14 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 27-25 lead at halftime.

Just the Stats
Joining Stephens in double digits tonight were Dobrovosky, Brown and sophomore Caitlin Mullin (Rockaway Beach/Xavarian) who all scored 10 points each.

The Red Dragons shot 37 percent from the field (26-70) including 32 percent from behind the arc (9-28).  Utica held a slight 46-40 advantage in rebounding and outscored Oneonta 32-20 in the paint which proved to be the biggest advantage for either squad.

What's Next
Oneonta will take a short trip up I-88 to play SUNY Cobleskill on Thursday night beginning at 6:30pm.
