Women's volleyball closes out SUNYAC regular season play

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta women's volleyball team faced a win and you're in today as they hosted SUNY Geneseo in the SUNYAC regular season finale for both squads.  Unfortunately, the Red Dragons were swept, which eliminated them from earning the final playoff spot for the conference tournament.

The Inside Story
Geneseo (13-8, 8-1 SUNYAC) jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the opening set before Oneonta (4-17, 3-6 SUNYAC) stormed back to tie the score on an attack error by the Knights.  The two teams continued to battle and were deadlocked again at nine, 12 and 17 points apiece.  Geneseo closed out the first set with an 8-3 spurt giving them a 25-20 win.

The Knights took an early 7-3 lead again in set 2 until the Red Dragons rallied to tie the score on a kill by sophomore Isabella Fabrizio (Highland Mills/Cornwall).  Geneseo scored four unanswered to create some breathing room never looking back enroute to a 25-15 win.

The Knights took control of the third set from the get-go running out to an 9-1 advantage.  The Knights never allowed Oneonta to put any sort of run together and closed out the third set 25-12.

Just the Stats
Geneseo compiled 45 kills in the match led by Isabella Imbo and Madison Popielski who each had 10 kills.  Oneonta collected 28 kills led by sophomore Ashanti Davis' (Cortlandt Manor/Hendrick Hudson) seven.  Defensively, the Knights recorded 50 digs and the Red Dragons collected 38.

What's Next
Oneonta concludes its season next weekend with a match at Ithaca on Friday night before returning home on Saturday to host its annual Dig Pink Invitational.
