Women's soccer defeats Oswego in overtime on Senior Day

Hannah Kelly scores game-winner with four seconds left in overtime

A Quick Look
A late goal from junior forward Hannah Kelly (Monroe/Monroe Woodbury) in the first period of overtime lifted the SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team over Oswego State 2-1 on Senior Day. The victory brings the Red Dragons to 2-11-1 overall and 2-6-1 in SUNYAC, while the Lakers drop to 5-9 and 2-7 in conference.

The Inside Story
Oswego put pressure on senior goalie Claire Lepper (Poland/Poland) early in the first, though Lepper was able to keep them out of the goal with three saves through the first 20 minutes. The scoreless tie ended when Lakers' Sara Marinaro dribbled up the field and passed to Katie Delgrosso to score from just inside the top of the box.

In the 41st minute, sophomore midfielder Leighann Perciballi (Northport/Kings Park) tied the game with a shot from 30 yards out that went over the head of Oswego goalie Haley Muehl.

The game remained tied for the rest of regulation, however both teams had multiple chances to score. The Red Dragons had back-to-back opportunities in the 54th minute in front of the net, The first chance by Emma Kirkpatrick (Wading River/Shoreham Wading River) was stopped by a defender and the follow up by Abbey Wood (Dover Plains/Dover Plains) hit the post. Oswego had a couple tries in front of the goal towards the end of the second half and missed both wide.

The beginning of overtime was a possession battle as neither team recorded a shot. With time running out in the first period of overtime, Perciballi stopped an Oswego clear and got the ball to junior midfielder Joie Tortorice (Melville/Walt Whitman). Tortorice got the ball to Kelly at the top of the box where she dribbled in and scored.
