Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer shuts out Buffalo State

Senior Morgan Creeden scores twice for Red Dragons

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team opened its five-game homestand today with a convincing 3-0 victory against Buffalo State.  The win for the Red Dragons was its first of the season, as they are now 1-9-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the SUNYAC.  The loss for the Bengals drops them to 2-12 overall and 0-6 in the conference.

The Inside Story
Oneonta seized control of the match from the opening whistle pressuring the Buffalo defense earning two corner kicks in the first three minutes of the match.  They also recorded four shots including three that were on frame.

The Red Dragons finally broke through in the 23rd minute on a breakaway goal by junior Emma Kirkpatrick (Wading River/Shoreham Wading River).  Kirkpatrick raced past the Bengals' defense on a ball that came out of the back by freshman Shannon Lowney (Massapequa/Massapequa).  Kirkpatrick carried the ball for about 15 yards before shooting the ball to the left corner of the goal.

Oneonta took its one-goal lead into halftime along with a 9-0 shot advantage.

It didn't take long for Oneonta to increase its lead in the second half putting a pair into the net in the 51st and 55th minutes.  Both goals came from senior Morgan Creeden (Washingtonville/Washingtonville).

The first came off a rebound of a shot by sophomore Abbey Wood (Dover Plains/Dover Plains).  The second came off a crossing pass from Kirkpatrick.

Just the Stats
Oneonta finished the game with a 15-2 advantage in shots while earning 13 corner kicks and surrendering none.
