A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team made it a perfect week with its win at Fredonia today 61-53.  With its three wins for the week, Oneonta (10-12, 7-8 SUNYAC) have put a claim in on one of the final playoff spots.  The Red Dragons needed today's win to move two games ahead of Fredonia (9-14, 5-11 SUNYAC) while having the tie-breaker against the Blue Devils.  Oneonta currently sits in fifth place with three games remaining on its regular season schedule.
 
The Inside Story
Oneonta trailed entering the fourth quarter but showed poise down the stretch to overtake Fredonia.  The senior trio of 
Olivia Allrich (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa), 
Leanne Corso (Commack/Commack) and 
Casey Hayes (New Hyde Park/Sewanhaka) combined to score 19 of the 22 points scored in the final stanza.  All three finished the contest in double figures with 18, 10 and 13 points respectively.
 
Allrich scored the first four points of the fourth to put Oneonta ahead 43-41.  A three by Audrey Craffey gave the hosts the lead back before a Hayes free throw knotted the score at 44 apiece at 7:21.  The Blue Devils kept pushing ahead and another trey by Craffey gave them a 50-46 lead with just over four minutes remaining.
 
Back-to-back three-pointers by Allrich and Corso fueled a 11-0 run that put Oneonta in control with less than one minute on the clock.  Allrich and Corso secured the win with a pair of free throws each in the final minute.
 
The Red Dragons put together two solid quarters to grab a 29-20 lead at halftime.  The Blue Devils struggled from the floor in the opening two quarters shooting only 25 percent including 1-of-9 from behind the arc.
 
Fredonia seized momentum in the third quarter turning the tables on Oneonta 21-10.  In the quarter, the Blue Devils made 5-of-6 from long range that helped them to gain a 41-39 lead heading to the fourth quarter.
 
Just the Stats
Today's game had six ties and 16 lead changes.  Oneonta outscored Fredonia 14-5 off turnovers and 12-6 on the fast break.  Oneonta collected eight steals led by freshman 
Olivia Dobrovosky (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) who recorded four.
 
What's Next
Oneonta will play its final home game of the regular season on Tuesday night against Oswego beginning at 5:30pm.
