The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team was downed today at New Paltz 71-41. The loss for the Red Dragons drops them to 6-11 overall and 3-7 in the SUNYAC.

The Inside Story
Oneonta had control of the contest in the first half grabbing a 26-23 lead heading into the break. Senior
Casey Hayes (New Hyde Park/Sewanhaka) was the leader scoring 12 points in the half to lead all players.

Trailing 6-2 early in the first quarter, the Red Dragons settled in and doubled up New Paltz (14-3, 9-1) the rest of the way to lead 16-13 entering the second quarter.

The first basket for either squad in the second quarter came from senior
Olivia Allrich (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) at the 6:53 mark. Allrich's bucket was part of a 10-2 run for Oneonta, as they opened up an 11-point bulge with 3:25 to go. The Hawks closed the quarter with eight unanswered to tighten the score entering the break.

The momentum shifted in the third quarter when the Hawks put together a 14-0 burst that erased a 30-29 deficit. New Paltz didn't miss much in the final two quarters combining for 48 points.

Hayes finished the game with 16 points. Allrich collected a game high 10 rebounds to go with eight points.

Oneonta outrebounded the Hawks 44-31 in the game while holding a slim 26-24 advantage for points in the paint.

Oneonta will be at home this Friday to face Brockport beginning at 5:30pm.
