The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team made a run at the visiting Buffalo State Bengals in the fourth quarter but ended up falling 73-58. The loss for Oneonta snapped a mini three-game win streak dropping its overall record to 6-10 and 3-6 in the SUNYAC.

The Inside Story
Trailing by 10 points entering the final quarter, Oneonta put together a 10-4 spurt that cut its deficit to 57-53 with just under seven minutes remaining. Junior
Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) made a layup off an assist from freshman
Olivia Dobrovosky (Skaneateles/Skaneateles) to cap the run. Culeton finished the game leading the Red Dragons with 14 points.

Six unanswered points for the Bengals pushed its lead back to 10 points just under the five-minute mark. Junior Kendall Mills put the cap on the run with a three-pointer.

Oneonta made one last run at Buffalo State but could only get as close as five points. Buffalo State closed with the final 10 points of the game to secure the victory.

Oneonta had control early in the first quarter leading 9-4, as the teams entered the midway point. An
Olivia Allrich (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) jumper kept the cushion at five points putting the score at 14-9 with just under five minutes to go. A 12-2 run by Buffalo State capped with a layup by Liv Lebaron reversed the score in favor of the visitors 21-16 at the 1:03 mark. Baskets by seniors

Casey Hayes (New Hyde Park/Sewanhaka) pulled Oneonta to within 21-20 at the end of the quarter.

Buffalo State continued its hot shooting creating some breathing room as the second quarter wore on. A three-pointer by Lebaron gave the Bengals its largest lead of the first half of 12 points at 41-29. Culeton scored the final four points of the quarter for Oneonta to bring the score to 41-33 entering the break.

Oneonta finished the game outrebounding the Bengals by a margin of 43-30 including 21 on the offensive end. Oneonta's reserves outscored Buffalo State's 19-11 while also holding a 16-11 advantage on second chance points.

Hayes joined Culeton in double figures with 12 points. Both players grabbed nine boards.

Lebaron led all scorers with 26 points. Kate Villarini scored 15 points and Tori Hackett added 10 points.

Oneonta will have the week off before traveling to face New Paltz next Saturday beginning at 2pm.
