Women's basketball picks up wire-to-wire win against Fredonia

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team led wire-to-wire tonight in picking up a SUNYAC victory tonight at home against Fredonia 49-39.  The win for the Red Dragons was its second straight raising its overall record to 6-9 and 3-5 in the SUNYAC. 
 
The Inside Story
Oneonta scored the first ten points of the game thanks to a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the arc.  Senior Leanne Corso (Commack/Commack) paced the Red Dragons with a pair of treys leading to eight points in the quarter.  Corso finished the game as the high scorer with 14 points.
 
Heaven Rollek finally got the Blue Devils on the scoreboard at the five-minute mark.  Fredonia finished the quarter outscoring Oneonta 10-6 to trail 16-12 entering the second quarter.
 
A three-pointer by Corso and freshman Lauren Obermayer (East Greenbush/Columbia) got Oneonta running in the second quarter.  The two teams combined for 15 points with the Red Dragons pushing its lead to 26-17 entering halftime.
 
Oneonta maintained its nine-point cushion after three quarters.  Neither team shot particularly well, as each team scored seven points in the quarter.
 
The Blue Devils scored five unanswered to start the final quarter to pull with four points.  Oneonta countered with four straight to push its lead back to eight points.  Fredonia would only get as close as six points the rest of the way.
 
Just the Stats
Senior Olivia Allrich (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) joined Corso in double figures tonight contributing 11 points including eight in the final quarter.
 
Oneonta collected 13 assists tonight on 20 baskets.  The reserves outscored Fredonia's bench 22-5 led by Corso.
 
What's Next
The women will be in action again tomorrow afternoon at home against Buffalo State beginning at 2pm.
