Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer draws even with Clarkson

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team put three goals on the scoreboard today in a 3-3 tie with Clarkson in its opening game of the 2019 Mayor's Cup Tournament at home.

The Inside Story
The host Red Dragons carried the play in the opening half but only had one goal to show for its efforts.  In the 27th minute, senior Christina Kornfeld (Mount Sinai/Miller Place) made a great individual rush going by a couple of defenders on her way to sending a shot by the Clarkson keeper.

The Golden Eagles were awarded a penalty kick in the 49th minute after a foul was called in the box.  Camryn Careccia stepped up to the line and converted the kick to tie the game at one goal apiece.

Nine minutes later, Clarkson (3-0-1) took a 2-1 lead on an unassisted goal by Megan Murphy.

Oneonta (0-1-1) scored back-to-back goals to grab a 3-2 lead with less than three minutes to go in regulation.  Freshman Emma Kirkpatrick (Wading River/Shoreham Wading River) notched her first collegiate goal 77th minute converting on a wide open goal on a pass from senior Abby Osouljoglou.  Ousouljoglou gave Oneonta the lead taking a pass from freshman Hannah Kelly (Monroe/Monroe Woodbury) before turning and shooting the ball over the head of the Clarkson keeper.

As time was running short, Clarkson was given a direct kick just outside the box with just more than one-minute left in the match.  After setting their play, Danielle Martin took the kick and sent a ball that floated over Oneonta keeper Claire Lepper (Poland/Poland) into the back of the goal.

The two teams battled through two overtimes recording two shots each with none of them reaching the back of the goal.

Just the Stats
Oneonta finished the game outshooting Clarkson 17-9 while also earning 10 corner kicks to only allowing two.  Lepper finished the game with five saves while Clarkson keeper Elyse Green made seven stops.

Oneonta will finish the 2019 Mayor's Cup with a home game against Susquehanna University tomorrow beginning at noon.
