The SUNY Oneonta volleyball split their opening matches at the New Paltz Invitational Friday evening. The Red Dragons began the day with a 3-0 win over Alfred University before suffering a 3-2 setback to Williams College in the nightcap.
Against Alfred, the Red Dragons earned a .181 hitting percentage as a team with
Gillian Stieglitz (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson) leading the way with seven kills on 14 attempts.
Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) and
Adriana Losier (Fishkill/John Jay) had six kills apiece while
Victoria Moulder (Wantagh/Kellenberg Memorial) chipped in with five.
Jessica Fowler (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) and
Lindsay Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) each had three serve aces while Fowler dished out 21 assists and two blocks.
In the nightcap, Williams took the first two sets before Oneonta rallied to capture the next two, forcing a decisive fifth set.
Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) had a team-high 14 kills with four service aces and five blocks.
Gillian Stieglitz (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson) added 12 kills while
Adriana Losier (Fishkill/John Jay) contributed ten.
The Red Dragons will wrap up the New Paltz Invitational on Saturday when they battle Kean University at 1:00pm and Hamilton College at 5:00pm.
