Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Kornfeld's pair leads women's soccer to shutout at New Paltz

A Quick Look
Senior Christina Kornfeld (Mount Sinai/Miller Place) scored a pair of goals today to lead the SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory against Catskill Cup rival New Paltz in the SUNYAC opening game for both squads.  With the win, the Red Dragons are now 3-2-3 overall while the Hawks fall to 3-5 overall.
 
The Inside Story
Kornfeld got Oneonta off and running early posting her first goal in the fifth minute of the game off an assist from sophomore Grace Syron (East Marion/Greenport).
 
Senior Seaver Lipshie (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) gave the Red Dragons a 2-0 lead with her third goal of the season in the 19th minute.  Freshman Emma Kirkpatrick (Wading River/Shoreham Wading River) was credited with the helper.
 
Oneonta scored its third goal of the opening half when Kornfeld scored her second of the game in the 31st minute.  Freshman Joie Tortorice (Melville/Walt Whitman) collected her second assist of the season on the play.
 
The scoring for Oneonta was completed in the 71st minute when freshman Abbey Wood (Dover Plains/Dover Plains) scored her first collegiate goal.
 
Just the Stats
Oneonta outshot New Paltz 10-3 in the match.  Eight of the 10 shots for the Red Dragons were on frame.  Sophomore Claire Lepper (Poland/Poland) and senior Celeste Trevellini (Queens/World Journalism Prep) combined for the shutout for Oneonta with Lepper logging 72 of the 90 minutes.
 
What's Next
Oneonta will play the first of four straight home games on Friday afternoon against Fredonia beginning at 4pm.
