Volleyball claws past Bengals for tenth straight

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team won their tenth consecutive match with a 3-2 victory over Buffalo State in SUNYAC action Friday evening. The win lifts the Red Dragons record to 14-3 overall and 2-0 in the SUNYAC.

The Inside Story
After Oneonta took the first set 25-11, Buffalo State won the next two matches with scores of 25-21 and 25-23. With their backs to the wall, the Red Dragons kept their winning streak alive by winning the next two sets 25-15 and 15-5.
In the first set, Oneonta used an early 5-0 run with Lindsay Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) at the service to take a 7-2 advantage. Oneonta never tailed the rest of the set, closing it out with a 6-0 run with Katelyn McDonough (Guilderland/Guilderland) at the service.
In the fourth set, Oneonta and Buffalo State went back and forth early on, battling through four ties. With the set knotted at 6-6, an Adriana Losier (Fishkill/John Jay) kill gave the Red Dragons the lead for good. The Red Dragons closed out the set with a 6-1 run, with the last two points coming on a pair of service aces by Lindsay Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson).
Trailing 2-1 early in the fifth set, Oneonta we in front for good with a 5-0 run with Carsyn Rachuta (Holbrook/Sachem North) at service. After Buffalo State cut the deficit to 7-4, Oneonta went on an 8-1 run to close out the match.

Just the Stats
Oneonta finished with a .294 hitting percentage for the match while the Bengals only could muster a .046. Adriana Losier (Fishkill/John Jay) paced the Red Dragons with a match-high 20 kills. Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) finished with 16 kills while Gillian Stieglitz (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson) chipped in with 11. Oneonta had nine service aces in the match, with five of them coming from Katelyn McDonough (Guilderland/Guilderland).  Jessica Fowler (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) added 50 more assists to her resume while Lindsay Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) had 21 digs.

The Red Dragons return to action tomorrow afternoon when they battle Fredonia at 1:00pm in SUNYAC play.
