Women's soccer records tie at Bard College

Freshman Kelsey Smith collects first collegiate goal

A Quick Look
Freshman Kelsey Smith (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) scored her first collegiate goal early in the second half to tie the game at one goal apiece, unfortunately, the SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team had to settle for a draw on the road at Bard.

The Inside Story
The hosts grabbed a 1-0 lead on a goal by Paige Sangston late in the first half.

Smith evened the score less than two minutes into the second half off classmate Joie Tortorice's (Melville/Walt Whitman) first collegiate assist.  Both Smith and Tortorice entered the game at the beginning of the half.

The two squads battled into overtime where both squads had chances at the end of each period.  A Bard defender took an Oneonta (2-2-3) shot off the line in the 98th minute.

Oneonta keeper Claire Lepper (Poland/Poland) made a save in the final 17 seconds of the first overtime.

In the 106th minute, senior Abby Ousouljoglou (Bridgewater/Bridgewater Raritan Regional) had a shot pushed aside by the Bard Keeper before Lepper made one final stop two minutes later to preserve the tie.

Just the Stats
The Red Dragons had a clear advantage statistically outshooting Bard 23-6.  Oneonta also earned eight corner kicks while Bard didn't record one.  Lepper's two saves in the match came during the overtime periods while Bard keeper Abigail Stanley recorded eight saves.
