Volleyball defeats Blazers for seventh straight win

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta volleyball team won their seventh consecutive match with a 3-1 victory over Elms College at the Sage Fall Invitational Friday evening. The win lifts the Red Dragons record to 11-3 on the year.

The Inside Story
After dropping the opening set 25-23, the Red Dragons went on to win three in a row with scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-12. In the second set, Oneonta Jumped out to a 5-0 lead with senior Jessica Fowler (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) at the service. Elms would rally to tie the set at 9-9 before Oneonta went on a 12-2 run to take a commanding 21-11 lead.

In the third set, the two teams battled through seven ties. With the Elms leading 17-19, Oneonta went on a 6-0 run with Lindsay Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) at the service to take a 23-19 lead. For the second straight set, Carly Lyndaker (Sandy Creek/Sandy Creek) finished off the set with a kill.

Oneonta dominated the fourth set from start to finish, jumping out to an early 12-2 advantage. Elms made things interesting when they cut the deficit to 14-7 before Oneonta responded with a 7-1 run to put the set of reach. The Red Dragons finished off the set with a Victoria Moulder (Wantagh/Kellenberg Memorial) kill on an assist from Jessica Fowler (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills).

Just the Stats
Gillian Stieglitz (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson) and Victoria Moulder (Wantagh/Kellenberg Memorial) led Oneonta with 12 kills apiece while Clara Culeton (Oswego/Oswego) and Carly Lyndaker (Sandy Creek/Sandy Creek) chipped in with 11. Moulder finished with a match-high .526 hitting percentage. Jessica Fowler (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) and Lindsay Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) had 15 digs each while Fowler dished out 51 assists and four service aces. For the match, Oneonta earned a .301 hitting percentage.

What's Next
The Red Dragons return to action tomorrow morning when they continue the Sage Fall Invitational against Skidmore College at 10:00am.
