Manhattanville (Purchase, NY) - The definition of the word Gatsby is feeling extravagant and stylish. With new uniforms in tow the Red Dragon men said "they were feeling a bit Gatsbyish today". They rolled into Manhattanville College playing them for the first time ever and left town with an 8-1 victory. The score of the match did not reflect the competitive nature of the contest.
Beginning in doubles senior
Marco Ammirati (Huntington/Huntington) and junior
Riley Smith (Westhampton Beach/Westhampton Beach) jumped out to a quick break of serve and it held up on route to an 8-6 triumph in the first flight. The second doubles tandem of freshmen Jacob Dornsife and sophomore
Matthew Reinhold (New Windsor/Newburgh Free Academy) were dominant jumping out to a 7-3 lead. Manhattanville broke serve twice to draw even at 7-7. However, the Red Dragon duo playing together for the first time regained composure and held on to win 8-7 (7-4). The newly united pair of junior
Ben Cohen (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin) and sophomore
Dalton Capobianco (Daniel Island, SC/SC Connections Charter School) were never really threatened and were resounding victors with a score of 8-2.
A 3-0 lead into the singles frame held up as Ammirati in first singles went on to win the first set in a tiebreaker and a break of serve in set number two holding in a  7-6, 6-4 battle. The number two player Capobianco split sets in a very close clash with the Red Dragon coming out on top 6-2, 5-7 (11-9). The third flight making his singles debut for Oneonta Dornsife played the big points well and secured a 6-3, 7-5 match. Fifth singles senior
Alexander Reiley (Manorville/Eastport) played a close first set and came out on top then stepped up his quality and shutout his opponent in the second set on route to 6-4, 6-0 conquest. Senior
Kiran Narsipur (Ossining/Ossining) brought home the last victory on the day for Oneonta going onto a straight set win 6-4, 6-1 clinching an 8-1 win for Oneonta.
The next match for the Red Dragon men is on Sunday, October 6th at 1 PM verse Baruch College at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadow, NY.
