Men's lacrosse edged in overtime at SUNY Geneseo

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team traveled to SUNY Geneseo for a game under the lights tonight and saw a late lead evaporate into an 11-10 setback in overtime.  The loss for the Red Dragons dropped them back to the .500 mark at 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the SUNYAC while the Knights picked up win number four on the season and its initial conference win.

The Inside Story
Oneonta had control early jumping out to a 5-1 lead after the first period.  Five unanswered goals including a pair by senior Pete McCormack (Mineola/Mineola) erased a 1-0 deficit.

Geneseo turned the table in the second period outscoring the Red Dragons 4-1 to cut its deficit to 6-5 heading into halftime.  James Pratt led the hosts with a goal and two assists.  Senior Stephen Panno (Holtsville/Sachem East) scored the lone goal for Oneonta.

The two squads scored one goal each in the third period.  Connor Griffin tied the game at six apiece at 10:05 and Thomas Fay (Nanuet/Nanuet) scored at 3:34 to give the Red Dragons its lead back heading into the final period.

Back-to-back goals by Panno and Dean Cannon (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) pushed Oneonta's lead to 9-6 with just over 12 minutes remaining.

After a goal by Matt Malone made the score 9-7, Cannon tallied another score to give Oneonta its three-goal lead back with 4:26 left in regulation.

The Knights then scored three straight goals in a span of 1:14 to knot the score at 10 apiece with 1:28 left.  Geneseo had the final possession of regulation and got a shot off, which was saved by Zachary Flynn (Stony Brook/Ward Melville).

Geneseo controlled the face-off to begin the overtime and used the clock before ending the game just 52 seconds into the extra session on a goal by Jake Steffen.
