A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse took a second straight tough loss today, as they were nipped by Plattsburgh 12-11. The loss for the Red Dragons drops them to 6-7 overall and 1-2 in the SUNYAC while the Cardinals leave town 5-6 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

The Inside Story
Oneonta carried a 9-6 lead into the final quarter and were still leading 11-8 after a goal by senior
Stephen Panno (Holtsville/Sachem East) at the 7:23 mark. Unfortunately, that would be the final goal of the game for the Red Dragons.

Plattsburgh began its rally less than one minute later on an unassisted goal by Jack Mullen. Forty-nine seconds later Kevin Litchauer scored off an assist from Stephen Kane.

An unassisted goal by Kevin Murphy at the 1:01 mark tied the game at 11 apiece.

With time running down, Oneonta was called for a pushing penalty, which gave Plattsburgh an extra-man opportunity with 11 seconds left in the game.  After a timeout, the Cardinals set a play and converted the game-winner with six seconds remaining. Connor Wolff received a pass in front of the goal from Litchauer and he turned quickly and shot from close range finding the back of the goal.

The Red Dragons didn't waste any time getting on the scoreboard today, as
Thomas Moore (Rockville Centre/South Side) scored just 27 seconds into the contest.Â
Thomas Fay (Nanuet/Nanuet) and
Ryan Stieve (Huntington/Huntington) would score just 16 seconds apart, as Oneonta built a 3-0 lead at the end of one period.

The Cardinals battled back in the second period outscoring Oneonta 4-3. Four different Cardinals scored in the period. The Red Dragons got a pair of goals by Panno to grab a 6-4 lead at halftime.

Moore,
Andrew Stamatel (Glens Falls/Glens Falls) and
Thomas McRae (Northport/Northport) each scored in the third period for Oneonta adding a goal to its lead heading into the final period.

Just the Stats
Plattsburgh ended up outshooting Oneonta 45-33 including 18-4 in the fourth period. The Cardinals won 21-of-26 face-offs and converted on four of its nine extra-man opportunities.

Zachary Flynn (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) made 10 stops in the goal for Oneonta while Joe Falco made eight saves for Plattsburgh.

Oneonta will take on rival SUNY Cortland at home this Saturday beginning at noon.
