Florham Park, NJ – The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team got back into the win column and over .500 with an impressive win over the Devils of FDU Florham 8-1.
The doubles lifted Oneonta to an overwhelming 3-0 lead before entering the singles competition. Junior
Marco Ammirati (Huntington/Huntington) and senior
Nicholas Fox (Commack/Commack) cruised to an 8-3 win with dominating serves and overpowering net play never allowing the Devils into the match. The same can be said for sophomores
Riley Smith (Westhampton Beach/Westhampton Beach) and
Ben Cohen (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin) only dropping one-game on route to their 8-1 victory in second flight. The third position was freshmen
Dalton Capobianco (Daniel Island, SC/SC Connections Charter School) and
Matthew Reinhold (New Windsor/Newburgh Free Academy) who also had no problems dominating their Fairleigh Dickinson foes cruising to an assertive 8-2 triumph.
A 3-0 lead now into the singles stanza saw Red Dragon domination on courts one through five. Ammirati, Fox, Capobianco and Smith were all straight set winners in singles 1, 2, 3 and 4. The fifth position saw junior
Alexander Reiley (Manorville/Eastport) turn in a double bagel performance on route to his 6-0, 6-0 lopsided win. Reiley secured the eighth and final point on the day for Oneonta as the Red Dragons suffered only one-setback on the afternoon in the sixth position. Earlier in the second singles position Fox's match ended with his 6-0, 6-3 victory and that proved to be the dual match clincher for Oneonta.
Up next for the Red Dragons men's tennis team is a trip to Oswego to take on their SUNY Foes the Lakers in a Saturday afternoon matchup. Start time for the match is slated for 12 noon on the campus of SUNY Oswego where Oneonta hopes to move two-games over .500 on the spring 2020 campaign.
