A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta baseball team fell to Wells College 8-0 on Wednesday afternoon in non-league action at Damaschke Field.
The Inside Story
Oneonta (16-18) was held hitless through four and a third innings until
Vincent Prisco (Northport/Saint Dominic) singled past the dive of the Wells second baseman. Wells got all the runs they needed in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded, Tyler Young hit a sharp ground ball to short, but David
Deberardinis' attempt to get the lead runner came up short, allowing Wells to get on the board. Tyler Dunkel followed with safety squeeze to put the Express in front 2-0.
Wells put the game out of reach with three runs in the seventh. The Red Dragons could only muster three hits on the day. Aside from Prisco's single, Oneonta got a single from
Jonathan Lezette (Saugerties/Saugerties) and double from
Mickey Mullins (Vestal/Vestal).
Robert Ottaviano (Nanuet/Albertus Magnus) suffered the loss despite not allowing an earned run while striking out five in six innings of work. Â
