Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Panno nets nine goals to lead men's lacrosse past Potsdam

A Quick Look
Senior Stephen Panno (Holtsville/Sachem East) celebrated his last home game by having a career day scoring nine goals to lead the SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team past Potsdam 18-7.  The nine goals for Panno tied the second most all time in a game, done back in 1981.

The Inside Story
Oneonta posted six goals in each of the first two quarters racing out to a 12-3 lead by halftime.  The two squads exchanged a pair of goals in the opening five minutes before Oneonta (7-8, 2-3 SUNYAC) scored ten unanswered to take command of the contest.  Panno scored his first five goals in the opening half of play including three straight goals over a stretch of 4:30 at the end of the first period and start the second.  By the end of the game, Panno was up to 48 goals for the season, which is the most for any player since 2002.

Other multi-goal scorers today for the Red Dragons included sophomore Thomas McRae (Northport/Northport) with three goals and senior Thomas Moore (Rockville Centre/South Side) and sophomore Thomas Fay (Nanuet/Nanuet) with two goals each.  McRae also added three helpers for a six-point game.

Potsdam (4-8, 1-3 SUNYAC) made a small run and cut its deficit to 13-6 late in the third period, but Oneonta stabilized its attack and scored five unanswered to close the door.

Just the Stats
Oneonta outshot the Bears 44-31 and was successful on 24-of-25 clears.  The Red Dragons took care of the ball as well with only 11 turnovers while winning 10 faceoffs.

What's Next
Oneonta will travel to Oswego next Saturday with a playoff spot on the line for both teams.  Oswego lost today to Geneseo, which tightened the race for the final two playoff spots.
