Men's lacrosse falls to Oswego in season finale

Red Dragons season ends at 7-9

A Quick Look
Today's regular season finale for the SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team versus Oswego was for a SUNYAC playoff berth with the winner earning the final spot in next week's tournament.  The host Lakers jumped out to a big halftime lead and came out on top 15-6 ending Oneonta's season in the process.
 
The Inside Story
Oswego (8-5, 3-3 SUNYAC) posted five goals in each of the opening two quarters to take a commanding 10-2 lead at halftime.  The Lakers ended the first period with consecutive goals in the final 1:48 and then ran off three straight goals in the second quarter to pull away from the Red Dragons.
 
Oneonta's first half goals came from freshman Dean Cannon (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) at 3:01 of the first quarter and from sophomore Thomas McRae (Northport/Northport) at 4:12 of the second quarter.
 
Oneonta (7-9, 2-4 SUNYAC) battled back in the third quarter outscoring the Lakers 4-2 to close the gap to 12-6.  After back-to-back goals by the Lakers to start the quarter, Oneonta ripped off four straight goals to end the quarter.  Four different players scored for the Red Dragons including a second goal by McRae.  The other three goals were scored by seniors Shane Carroll (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) and Stephen Panno (Holtsville/Sachem East) and sophomore Andrew Stamatel (Glens Falls/Glens Falls).
 
Oswego scored the final three goals of the game in the final quarter for the final margin of victory.
 
Just the Stats
The Lakers held the advantage in all stats in the game.  Oneonta goalie Zachary Flynn (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) came up with 12 saves in the contest.
 
What's Next
Today's game ended the season for Oneonta, who won seven games for the first time since 2015.  The 171 goals scored this year were the most since 2005.
