Oneonta, NY – The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team threw the kitchen sink at Hamilton College, a member of the top conference in men's tennis in the entire country. In one respect the Red Dragons showed they can compete with most teams in the country, in the other respect Hamilton College was just one shot better throughout the dual match.
Doubles saw junior
Marco Ammirati (Huntington/Huntington) and senior Nick Fox stay close with their opponents at the top flight. They did broke serve twice but could not hold their own serve at several key moments. They settled for an 8-6 setback playing very competitive tennis.
Singles began with 3-0 deficit and too much of a hole to climb out of. Noteworthy was a solid showing by Fox who kept things close the whole singles match in the second position losing the first set by just one break on route to a tough loss 6-4, 6-2. Freshmen
Dalton Capobianco (Daniel Island, SC/SC Connections Charter School) dropped the first set and then actually went up in the second set 3-2 but could not muster another game on route to a 6-1, 6-3 loss. Sophomore
Riley Smith (Westhampton Beach/Westhampton Beach) also played a closely contested match also leading in the second set 3-2 but found himself on the short side of a 6-2, 6-3 setback.
The Red Dragons are now 7-6 on the season but look to go two games over .500 in an important matchup at the National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY against Hunter College of the CUNY Athletic Conference beginning at 3 PM on Wednesday, April 17th.
