The SUNY Oneonta baseball team fell to Oswego State 7-2 in SUNYAC action Friday afternoon at Laker Baseball Field

The Inside Story
Oneonta (13-14, 4-9 SUNYAC) fell in an early hole as the Lakers scored four runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning. In the top of the fifth, the Red Dragons got on the board on a David Deberardinis (Fishkill/John Jay) RBI single, scoring Mike Graves (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) to make it 4-1.
 
Oswego would add to their lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth on a Nick Chilson sacrifice fly. Oneonta got the run back in the top of the sixth. With runners on first and second, James Zupo (Massapequa/Massapequa) put down a sacrifice bunt, but the attempt to throw Zupo out at first was thrown away allowing Brandon LaVenture (Schenectady/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) to score.
 
Oswego put the game out of reach when they scored twice in the top of the eighth.  
 
Oneonta starting pitcher Steven Gerringer (LaGrangeville/Arlington) suffered the loss after allowing five runs in seven innings of work. The Red Dragons could only muster five hits in the game. Brandon LaVenture (Schenectady/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) finished the day 1-for-2 with a pair of walks.
 
What's Next
Both teams will return to action tomorrow when they wrap up their three-game series with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
