A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta baseball team was swept by Fredonia in their SUNYAC opening doubleheader Saturday evening at Pat Thomas Stadium with scores of 11-2 and 6-1.
The Inside Story
Game 1.
Trailing 1-0 after the top of the first,
John Zinko (Wallkill/Wallkill) tied the game in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double to right centerfield, scoring
Dominic Lamonica (Stony Brook/Ward Melville). After the Blue Devil expanded their lead to 9-1 with three in the second and five in the third,
Patrick McGee (Mahopac/Mahopac) led off the fifth with a triple into the right centerfield gap.
Lazaro Moralez (Virginia Beach, VA/Green Run) plated McGee with a ground out to the right side. Unfortunately the Red Dragons could only muster two more hits the rest of the game. Â
Ryan Fay (Carmel/Carmel High School) kept Oneonta in the game with three and two-third innings of scoreless relief.
Game 2
The Oneonta bats were stymied by Fredonia in game two as the Red Dragons put five hits on the board. Oneonta scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by
Patrick McGee (Mahopac/Mahopac).
Dominic Lamonica (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) got the inning started with a single to left.
John Zinko (Wallkill/Wallkill) moved Lamonica over to third with a double to right center, setting up McGee for the fly out to center.
Christoper DiDomizio tossed three scoreless innings of relief in the loss.
