On the second day of its Texas swing, the SUNY Oneonta softball team split with Centenary College of Louisiana. Oneonta dropped the first game, 8-2, before bouncing back to take the nightcap 11-3.

The Inside Story
Game 1
Centenary jumped all over Oneonta in the bottom of first inning plating five runs. The Red Dragons scored single runs in the third and seventh innings to account for its two runs in the game.Â
Caroline Koch (New City/Clarkstown South) hit a sacrifice fly in the third and
Lauren Sabatino (Bayville/Locust Valley) drove in the seventh inning run on a ground out.

Game 2
In the second game, Oneonta didn't waste time getting on the scoreboard, as Sabatino hit a single down the left field line to drive in
Dana Del Genio (New Hartford/New Hartford) and
Kristen Collins (Hicksville/Holy Trinity) in the top of the first inning.

Centenary scored single runs in the first, second and third innings to grab a 3-2 lead after three innings.

The Red Dragons took the lead for good with a five-spot in the fourth inning. Freshman
Madison Capozucca (South Glens Falls/South Glens Falls), junior
Jade Meehan (Halcottsville/Roxbury Central), Del Genio and Collins all had one RBI each.

Oneonta put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh plating four more runs. Capozucca had the big hit in the inning when she drove her first collegiate home run to left-center field to drive in three runs.

Junior
Julia Calabro (Wantagh/St. John the Baptist) picked up her first win of the season going the distance striking out a pair and allowing only two earned runs.

Just the Stats
Oneonta pounded out 14 hits in game two led by Del Genio's three hits that included a double and a triple. The Red Dragons collected five extra-base hits total. Collins, Capozucca and
Amanda Sexton (Port Jervis/Port Jervis) each collected two hits. Capozucca collected four runs batted in.

Del Genio had three of Oneonta's nine hits in the opener including two doubles. Koch and Sabatino each added a pair of hits.

What's Next
Oneonta will be back in action again tomorrow when they face nationally ranked No. 8 East Texas Baptist University for a doubleheader beginning at 3pm.
