Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's lacrosse open SUNYAC schedule with win at Brockport

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team assumed control in the second quarter enroute to an 11-6 victory at Brockport today to open its SUNYAC schedule.  The Red Dragons are now 6-5 overall while the Golden Eagles fell to 4-4 overall.

The Inside Story
The Red Dragons grabbed a slim 3-2 lead at the end of the first period.  Freshman Dean Cannon (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa), sophomore Andrew Stamatel (Glens Falls/Glens Falls) and senior Stephen Panno (Holtsville/Sachem East) each scored in the period for Oneonta.

Oneonta created some breathing room in the second period scoring four times while holding the Golden Eagles to just a single tally.  Four different players scored for the Red Dragons including a man up goal by sophomore Thomas McRae (Northport/Northport) with four seconds on the clock.

Both teams scored two goals each in the third period, as Oneonta maintained its four-goal advantage heading into the final period of play.  Sophomore Ryan MacDevitt (Sayville/Sayville) scored his seventh goal of the season while Panno scored his 32nd of the season.

Brockport scored its final goal of the game 15 seconds into the fourth period to cut its deficit to 9-6.  Oneonta's defense stiffened to shut down the Golden Eagles the rest of the way while the offense connected twice for the final margin of victory.

Just the Stats
Brockport held a slight 42-38 edge in total shots, but 29 of Oneonta's shots were on cage.  The Red Dragons were nearly perfect on clears in the contest successfully clearing 26-of-28 attempts.

Junior goalie Zachary Flynn (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) made 17 stops today including six in the final period.

What's Next
Oneonta will have a week off before getting back to action next Saturday at SUNY Geneseo.  Faceoff is scheduled for 7pm.
