Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Strong second half propels Hamilton over women’s lacrosse

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team was defeated by Hamilton College 17-7 in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at Red Dragon Field.

The Inside Story
Trailing 1-0 early in the first half, Oneonta tied the game when Sophia Calabrese (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) fed Deirdre Buckley (Merrick/Kellenberg Memorial) for her fifth goal of the season. Sophia Calabrese (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) earned her second assist of the game at the 7:03 mark when she set up Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin) for her team-best 25th maker of the season, putting the Red Dragons in front 2-1. After Hamilton knotted the game at 2-2 on a Skyler Simson goal, Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin) tickled the twine twice in a matter of 42 seconds to give Oneonta a 4-2 advantage. Hamilton would cut the deficit to 4-3 before Sophia Calabrese (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Central) tallied her third point of the game to give Oneonta a two goal lead.

Hamilton responded with four unanswered goals including two man-up tallies by Tessa Ryan to put the Continentals in front 7-5. Kelsey Cohen (Baldwin/Baldwin) would pull Oneonta within a goal in the 26th minute, but that would be as close as the Red Dragons would get. Hamilton would score the next ten goals of the game to take a commanding 17-6 lead. An Oneonta goal by Abbi Zalucky (Averill Park/Averill Central) with 16 seconds remaining in regulation made the final score 17-7.
