Men's lacrosse picks up road win at Kean

Panno and Moore lead Red Dragons with three goals each

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team traveled to Kean University today and came away with a hard-fought 11-9 victory.  The win for the Red Dragons puts them at 4-5 overall while the loss for the Cougars drops them to 3-2.
 
The Inside Story
The hosts grabbed a 3-1 advantage at the end of the first period led by a pair of goals from Daniel Lee.  Senior Thomas Moore (Rockville Centre/South Side) netted the lone goal for the Red Dragons in the opening 15 minutes of play.
 
Oneonta seized control of the game exploding for seven goals in the second period to take an 8-5 lead into halftime.  Back-to-back goals by senior Pete McCormack (Mineola/Mineola) and sophomore Jake Boston (Highland Mills/Monroe Woodbury) tied the game at three goals each.  After the Cougars went back ahead, 5-3, the Red Dragons put five unanswered on the board to closeout the final 10 minutes of the quarter.  Senior Stephen Panno (Holtsville/Sachem East) posted a pair of goals during the run.
 
After the two teams went scoreless for the opening 11 minutes of the third period, Kean pulled to within two goals at 8-6 before Oneonta scored three more unanswered goals to increase its advantage to 11-6 entering the final period.  Sophomore Thomas McRae (Northport/Northport), Moore and Panno tallied for the Red Dragons.
 
Oneonta held off a late surge by the Cougars who scored three goals in the final stanza while holding Oneonta scoreless.
 
Just the Stats
Panno and Moore led Oneonta with three goals each.  McRae finished with four points on one goal and three assists.  Senior Shane Carroll (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) led the defensive effort with four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
 
Kean outshot Oneonta 48-38 while winning 17-of-24 faceoffs.
 
Oneonta goalie Zachary Flynn (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) recorded 17 saves in the contest to pick up his fourth win of the season.
 
What's Next
Oneonta will return home this Thursday when they host Anna Maria College in a non-conference tilt beginning at 4pm.
