Men's lacrosse runs past Elmira

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team snapped its four-game skid today in a big way running past Elmira College 23-2.  The win for the Red Dragons raised its record to 3-4 overall while the Soaring Eagles fell to 1-4.
 
The Inside Story
Oneonta jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead enroute to putting the game out of reach early taking a 9-1 lead into the second quarter.  Senior Stephen Panno (Holtsville/Sachem East) and sophomore Thomas McRae (Northport/Northport) each tallied a pair of goals in the first quarter.
 
The Red Dragons added four more goals in the second quarter to grab a commanding 13-2 lead at halftime.  Sophomore Ryan MacDevitt (Sayville/Sayville) registered two goals, Matthew Trudeau (Watervliet/Shaker) contributed a goal and an assist and McRae added a pair of helpers in the quarter.
 
Oneonta finished the final two quarters with ten unanswered goals including seven in the third quarter.  Freshman John Hawkins (East Greenbush/Columbia) scored the first three goals of his collegiate career to cap the scoring in the fourth quarter.  Sophomores Chris Higgins (Farmingville/Sachem East) and Santiago Cardona (Montrose/Hendricks Hudson) scored their first two goals of the season in the third quarter.  Sophomore Andrew Hodgens (Syracuse/Westhill) contributed three assists in the final two quarters.
 
Just the Stats
Oneonta finished the game with 74 shots including 42 on goal.  The Red Dragons collected 65 ground balls and won 23 faceoffs.
 
What's Next
Oneonta will travel to Ithaca on Wednesday for a non-conference game beginning at 4pm.
