Men's lacrosse falls at home to city rival Hartwick

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team fell at home today to city-rival Hartwick College 13-7.  The loss for the Red Dragons drops them under the .500 mark at 2-3 while the Hawks return to campus 2-1.
 
The Inside Story
Oneonta grabbed the early lead on an Andrew Stamatel (Glens Falls/Glens Falls) goal just more than one minute into the contest.  The Hawks countered with a pair of goals before the Red Dragons closed the opening period with back-to-back goals to take a 3-2 lead heading to the second period.  Sophomores Thomas McRae (Northport/Northport) and Ryan MacDevitt (Sayville/Sayville) tallied for Oneonta.
 
The Hawks seized control of the game in the second period scoring five unanswered goal to go into halftime with a 7-3 advantage.  Kainen Francis-Thompson led the attack with three goals including the final two scores of the period.
 
Hartwick increased its lead by a pair outscoring Oneonta 3-1 in the third period.  Chris VanDemark notched a pair of goals for the Hawks.
 
The two teams broke even in the final period scoring three goals apiece.  McRae and Stamatel each tallied their second goals of the game.  Three different Hawks accounted for their goals in the period.
 
Just the Stats
The Hawks outshot the Red Dragons 44-37 while collecting 35 ground balls to only 20 for Oneonta.  Hartwick won 15-of-23 faceoffs and were successful on 24-of-25 clears.  The Red Dragons were successful on 22-of-25 clears in the game.
 
C.J. Alesandrini recorded 13 saves for the visitors while Zachary Flynn (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) made 12 stops for Oneonta.
 
What's Next
Oneonta will host St. Joseph's (LI) on Thursday afternoon beginning at 4pm in another non-conference tilt.
